DESCRIPTION:Reclaiming the Jewish Story From Those Who Blame\, Shame\, and Try to Erase Us\nJoin us for Shabbat with author and former White House speechwriter Sarah Hurwitz. Her new book\, As a Jew: Reclaiming Our Story from Those Who Blame\, Shame\, and Try to Erase Us\, is an urgent exploration of how antisemitism has shaped Jewish identity and how Jews can reclaim their tradition. She is also the author of Here All Along: Finding Meaning\, Spirituality\, and a Deeper Connection to Life–in Judaism (After Finally Choosing to Look There). \nNo registration is required for the Shabbat Service at 6:30 pm\, but please register for the dinner that will follow and an opportunity to hear from Sarah about what it means to be Jewish during a time of rising antisemitism and how Jews can live proudly\, boldly\, and joyfully. \nSchedule \n\n6:30-7:15 pm: Shabbat Service. Watch the livestream\n7:15-7:45 pm: Dinner (registration required below)\n7:45-8:45 pm: Sarah Hurwitz and Rabbi Roos in Conversation (Q&A with Sarah to follow; no livestream or recording at the author’s request. Registration required below)\n\n  \nThis program is supported by the Rabbi Mindy Portnoy Adult Education Fund in memory of Temple Sinai Rabbi Emerita\, Mindy Portnoy. \nThe Rabbi Mindy Portnoy Adult Education Fund was established by a resolution of the Temple Sinai Board of Trustees to memorialize the impact Rabbi Portnoy had on the Temple Sinai community and her legacy of continuing Jewish education for adults. The fund focuses on providing financial support for educational programming primarily targeted members above the age of 18. This evening’s program was made possible thanks to the generosity of Portnoy Fund donors–if you would like to support additional programs such as this\, please consider making a donation to the Portnoy Fund online or by mailing a donation to Temple Sinai.

SUMMARY:Daytimers with Robert Lieber
DESCRIPTION:United States Foreign Policy In Turbulent Times \nGuest Speaker Robert Lieber\, PhD\, Professor Emeritus of Government and International Affairs\, Georgetown University \nAmerica’s relations with allies and adversaries have displayed a dizzying series of changes. Longtime solidarity with European allies that had been a fixture of the US world role since the creation of NATO has been questioned\, and relations with Asian allies are only slightly less troubled. A rearmed Russia and an increasingly powerful China pose strategic threats\, yet the Trump administration’s policies have been ambivalent toward Moscow and seem to alternate between cooperation and conflict with Beijing. Despite a transactional approach to friends and foes\, the reality is that not only are US national security and vital interests at stake\, but also our values. \nRobert Lieber is Emeritus Professor of Government and International Affairs at Georgetown University\, where he previously served as Chair of the Government Department and interim chair of Psychology. He is author or editor of eighteen books on international relations and U.S. foreign policy\, and his essays and op-eds have appeared in journals and newspapers in the U.S.\, Europe\, and Israel. He also has served as an advisor to several presidential campaigns\, to the State Department\, and to the drafters of U.S. National Intelligence Estimates. His most recent book is INDISPENSABLE NATION: AMERICAN FOREIGN POLICY IN A TURBULENT WORLD (Yale University Press). \nJoin the Temple Sinai DayTimers for a Zoom program to learn more about United States foreign policy. There will be adequate time for questions\, comments\, and discussion following the presentation. \nRegister to join via Zoom

SUMMARY:Repro/TSWRJ Shabbat Service
DESCRIPTION:The Davis Center‘s Reproductive Health & Rights Group and Temple Sinai Women of Reform Judaism will join together in celebrating Repro/TSWRJ Shabbat\, honoring the Jewish value of reproductive freedom. \nWe are delighted to welcome Allison Tombros Korman\, Founder and Executive Director of the Red Tent Fund\, as our guest speaker. The Red Tent Fund is a national abortion fund rooted in the Jewish teachings that affirm the right to abortion for all. The recent Maj Fun Day raised over $12\,000 to support the Red Tent Fund\, with whom Temple Sinai is a congregational partner. \nAt the service we will honor TSWRJ leaders and temple members who provide\, advocate for\, educate about\, and protest for abortion and reproductive health care. \nClick here for livestream. \nServices will be followed by an oneg\, sponsored by the Davis Center\, TSWRJ\, and the Wolman family in celebration of Juliet Davey Wolman’s baby naming. \nDuring the Oneg following services\, attendees will have the opportunity to create handwritten encouragement cards that will accompany the care items we are donating to abortion patients at CARE Reproductive Health Care. Attendees will also be encouraged to write postcards to Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy\, Jr. in response to the Administration’s recent actions targeting medication abortion and access to mifepristone. \n  \nCelebrate TSWRJ/Repro Shabbat in song by joining the pop-up choir! No prior music training necessary- just come sing with us. We will meet at 6:00 pm to rehearse and will sing during the service. To RSVP\, please email Gail Sell at gsell@templesinaidc.org.
