All are welcome to attend this unique Shabbat morning service held on the first and third Saturday of the month at 10:30 am in the Beit Am, our smaller sanctuary. Congregants join their voices in prayer and song, share a warm feeling of being, praying, and learning together. Those who wish to may choose to volunteer to lead services, chant Torah and Haftarah, or deliver a brief interpretation (d’var Torah) of the week’s Torah portion (parasha). The clergy, staff, and experienced lay leaders support volunteers to ensure the success of these lay-led services. The music is led by a cantor, a professional music leader, or a member of the congregation with a musical background. People marking special lifecycle occasions and adult b’nei mitzvah alumni are invited up to the bimah for the Torah blessing (aliyah). Kehillat Shabbat provides an additional opportunity for congregants in mourning or observing a yahrzeit to recite Kaddish. Challah, wine, and juice are offered after every Kehillat Service, with light lunches served after some.
Kehillah means community. This is a supportive community celebrating Shabbat in an intimate space. Gathering for refreshments after the service offers time for continuing discussion or catching up with friends.
