B’nei Mitzvah Celebrations

Celebrate at Temple Sinai

Reserve our spaces for a kiddush luncheon, an evening celebration, or both.

Temple Sinai’s social hall and surrounding spaces are available to rent for kiddush luncheons and evening celebrations on the day of your child’s bar/bat/bet mitzvah service. Our staff will work with you and your vendors to keep things running smoothly so you and your family can focus on celebrating.

Rental requests open shortly after b’nei mitzvah dates are assigned. For families with dates between September 2028 and June 2029, the request window opens June 1, 2026. All families receive a copy of the contract via email on that date. Contracts received before July 1, 2026 are entered into an initial pool and any scheduling conflicts will be resolved by coin toss. After July 1, contracts are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

If your date is prior to September 2028, rental contracts are available by request. Contact Helena Peter to confirm availability for your date and request a contract.

Kiddush Luncheon: A kiddush luncheon begins at the conclusion of the morning service and runs until 2:30 pm. Temple Sinai provides challah and juice for all morning services; a rental contract is required for any additional food you wish to provide.

Evening Celebration: Evening celebrations are scheduled 7:00–11:00 pm on most dates. On dates with a mincha service, celebrations run 7:30–11:30 pm.

Sharing a Kiddush: When two students share the bimah, families may choose to host a kiddush luncheon together. Both families can submit contracts and deposits, with the final total divided at your direction — or one family may submit on behalf of both.

We strongly encourage families to share a kiddush lunch together, as having two separate lunches is unlikely given other Shabbat activities in the building.

Staff Your rental includes facilities staff, who will arrange furniture according to your floor plan and ensure vendors follow temple guidelines. Security staff are stationed at the building entrance, and armed security is onsite throughout your event.

We are happy to meet with you and your vendors for a walkthrough at any point in the planning process.

We will reach out to you a month prior to your event to collect your vendor list and floor plan.

All events are guaranteed 2 hours for setup and 1 hour for breakdown. Any extended setup, breakdown, or event time is subject to availability. Additional charges may apply.

Contact Helena Peter to schedule a walkthrough or with any other questions.

Support from the Temple Sinai Women of Reform Judaism (TSWRJ)

The TSWRJ offers several services to help make your celebration easier:

Kiddush Luncheon Coordination The TSWRJ can provide disposable tableware, beverages, and a buffet centerpiece, along with volunteers to staff your luncheon. During the event they replenish buffets, pour beverages, and package leftover food for your family or a local shelter. Catering and any additional centerpieces or other elements remain the family’s responsibility.

Rentals Dish and tablecloth rental is available for events held at Temple Sinai.

Judaica Shop The Judaica Shop carries a variety of tallitot and kippot along with other religious and ornamental pieces of Judaica.

Rules & Regulations

Please review these guidelines carefully and share them with your event planner and vendors in advance of your event.

  • We recommend hiring an event planner to help with advance planning and/or day-of coordination so you can focus on enjoying your child’s milestone. Event planners are not required, but strongly encouraged. See our vendor list for planners familiar with Temple Sinai events.
  • If you plan to use the Sanctuary Foyer, please be mindful of Shabbat decorum. Service attendees must pass through this space to enter and exit the Sanctuary. If you have a bimah partner, this space must remain clear and accessible to service attendees who will not attend your party.
  • A final Event Planning Request Form and Social Hall diagram are due at least 1 week before your event. Helena will follow up with you after you submit these materials.
  • All events are guaranteed 2 hours for setup and 1 hour for breakdown. Any additional time must be arranged in advance with Helena and may incur extra charges. Because our spaces may be rented more than once in a day, extra time is not always available.
  • Celebrations begin at the conclusion of services. Kiddush luncheons may last up to 2 hours; evening parties up to 4 hours. If there is a mincha service scheduled, an evening celebration begin at 7:30 pm. If there is not a mincha service scheduled, an evening celebration begins at 7:00 pm.
  • All supplies and equipment must be brought and removed the day of your event. Exceptions must be discussed at least 3 weeks in advance with Helena.
  • All event staff should check in with security upon arrival and introduce themselves to our facilities staff.
  • Vendors should not park in the temple parking lot. The loading dock or a short-term spot in the lot may be used for unloading only. When parking in the neighborhood, vendors should be respectful of our neighbors and mindful of posted parking rules.
  • Facilities staff are responsible for opening and closing curtains, adjusting lighting, and any changes to air conditioning. Please do not attempt to make changes to temple property without consulting staff.
  • Facilities staff will set up tables based on your event planning request. Your vendors are responsible for placing chairs and any other decor.
  • Your vendors are responsible for unloading food and decorations and arranging food. Facilities staff are not available for these tasks.
  • Decorations that hang from the ceiling are not permitted.
  • Tape and adhesive materials on floors are not permitted. If your setup includes extension cords that may pose a trip hazard, your vendors must provide cable ramps and/or mats.
  • All furnishings and decor including additional seating, bars, and similar items must have wheels or glides designed to move smoothly over hardwood floors without scratching.
  • Deep fryers are not permitted inside or outside the building. No exceptions.
  • The kitchen must be cleaned after use per your contract. All trash generated by your event must be removed from the premises. No trash may be deposited in Temple Sinai dumpsters.
  • Temple facilities must be left clear and in broom-clean condition at the end of your event.
  • All supplies and equipment must be removed the day of your event. Exceptions must be discussed at least 3 weeks in advance with Helena.
  • Temple Sinai is not responsible for personal property left at the temple before or after your event.
