Words of Our Hearts

Join in to wrap up our community art project!

Your hands can help bring our community’s story to life.

In early 2025, Temple Sinai commissioned a communal art installation — “Words of Our Hearts.” The artists have printed our words on small sheets of paper, building on the memories and experiences of our community.

It is now time for us to wrap the paper around the clips to create a three-dimensional artwork that weaves together the unique stories of our Temple Sinai family.

The art materials for the sculpture are 650 strands of 100 wrapped paper clips. So far we have 400 strands completed — with 250 more to go by June.

How to Participate

The art committee is distributing canvas bag wrapping kits containing the materials. The process is easy to learn.

Watch a video of how to make a strand of wrapped paper clips!

Tips for Successful Wrapping

  1. Make a small empty space on a table—about the size of a placemat (12 x 18). The strand is compact as you build it but will measure 8-10 ft. when complete.
  2. Use a desktop lamp for bright visibility.
  3. Clear your mind to focus on the clips, the paper, and the repetitive steps to assembling a strand.
  4. Wrap by yourself or with a companion and chit-chat.
  5. Listen to a podcast, audiobook or Music @ Sinai playlist.
  6. Do not watch TV or a movie. Your sight needs to stay on wrapping.
  7. One strand can take a full hour to put together.

After wrapping, return strands.

Pick up and return wrapping kits from the boxes in the Temple’s community lounge. Place your completed strand in the canvas bag provided. Be sure to sign your kit in on the sheet attached to the collection box.

And feel free to take another kit if you enjoy the wrapping process!

What happens when all the strands are made?

When the 650 strands are complete, the artists will integrate and assemble them together to create the artwork.

The last step is to install the hanging sculpture in the display case at Temple Sinai. Our goal is to have artwork installed by Rosh HaShanah in September.
