Temple Sinai relies on the generosity of our members to remain vibrant and fiscally healthy. Temple Sinai has established the Shorashim (“roots”) Society for members of our congregation who make significant contributions to the temple on an annual basis – through enhanced Community Commitment (“dues”) as well as contributions to other funds. This additional financial support allows us to maintain Temple Sinai’s progressive dues structure and our strong Jewish community for future generations.
Tree motifs are sprinkled throughout Jewish text. The Hebrew term etz chaim (“tree of life”) is often used to refer to the Torah, symbolizing how the Torah nurtures spiritual growth and nourishes the Jewish people. To the prophets and sages, roots represented strength – anchoring the community through harsh times – and sustenance – a conduit to the waters of righteousness and spirituality. Strong roots may not be the most visible part of a tree, but they are arguably the most important.
You can become part of the Shorashim Society as a Sustainer ($12,000-$17,999) or a Benefactor ($18,000+). Temple Sinai will work with you to allocate your contribution in a way that you find most meaningful. We ask that a minimum of $10,000 (Sustainer level) or $15,000 (Benefactor level) be directed toward the current year’s operating support (community commitment, security fee, or annual fund). The remainder can be allocated to funds that support programs like music, social justice, pastoral care, the nursery or religious school, and more. By pledging your full annual contribution at the start of the year, you help secure the temple’s fiscal footing and allow Temple Sinai to recognize your significant support through events and in the Annual Report.
